Legend has it that coffee was discovered by an Ethiopian goatherd named Kaldi when he saw his herd dancing by some coffee shrubs and grazing on the berries that contained the coffee beans. He tried it himself and he was soon seen dancing like his energized flock.
The rest as the cliche goes is history and we are now enjoying the fruit of Kaldi’s labors everytime we drink a cup of joe.
We did not dance like the Ethiopian goats but we certainly had a great time at My Cuppa Fix, a cozy coffee shop in BF Homes Paranaque.
The cafe sits right beside a Korean restaurant and does not have a signboard that screams “Cafe”, a coffee cup icon and a chalkboard announcing, “Behind the door exists great coffee” are the only reminders that you have arrived at the right place.
Upon entering, we were welcomed by motivational messages scrolled on the chalk board, a display of board games, and toys that made us feel like we were entering somebody’s home and not a commercial establishment. The halogen lamps that light the place also add additional warmth, it was a welcome sight as it had been raining the whole day and a jolt of java was just what we needed.
My Cuppa Fix is jointly owned by a group of five coffee loving friends who worked as OFWs in Malaysia. They wanted to bring home the experience they had in coffee shops overseas to the local coffee enthusiasts.
Ms. Emily Ann Querubin-Lagota, one of the owners of My Cuppa Fix, had us try some of their concoctions, Picolo Latte (P140.00), Latte (P140.00), Flat White (P140.00), Long Black (P140.00) and Ice blended Chocolate (P170.00).
MrsEneroDiaries had the Picolo Latte, Lonely Travelogue ordered the Long Black and I got myself the Flat White.
COFFEE 101
Piccolo Latte: A ristretto shot (traditionally a short shot of espresso coffee) topped with warm, silky milk served in a 100 ml glass demitasse (small latte glass) … basically, a baby latte, as the Italian pronunciation suggests. (Cafe Culture)

What is espresso anyway? It is coffee brewed by forcing a small amount of nearly boiling water under pressure through finely ground coffee beans. (Wikipedia)
Long black: It is commonly found in Australia and New Zealand is made by pouring a double-shot of espresso or ristretto over hot water.
Flat white: An espresso-based coffee drink which is prepared by pouring microfoam (steamed milk with small, fine bubbles with a glossy or velvety consistency) into a single or double shot of espresso. It is similar to latte but has a higher proportion of coffee to milk (Wikipedia), in short, matapang at kaya kang ipaglaban.
The Ice blended Chocolate drink meanwhile is for those who like their coffee sweet and cold.
Coffee is best paired with food so they also gave us a sample of their savory dishes and pastries. 
Quezo de Bola Ensaymada (P85.00) and Crunchy Tacos (Open-faced tacos) P90.00, and Lasagna (P200.00)
The ensaymada was my favorite, a single bite transports you to Christmas past, yung panahon di pa uso ang fake news at masaya ka na sa cellphone mo na 3310. Oh, those were the days my friend, we though they would never end. I believe this is supplied by Pastry Armoire, a pastry shop which is also in BF Homes. The coffee shop does not make its own bread and pastries but helps other small-scale enterprises by serving the baked goods.
The crunch tacos, party food, the kind which your fancy hipster neighbor serves on their birthday. Mas bagay sa beer mga pare. 🙂
I like the lasagna, rich and cheesy, just like me, not the rich part, more on the cheesy.
Taco Rolls (P90.00). Perfect as a snack, kids would like that it’s bread in roll form. Madaling kainin.
Cheese bread boat (P120.00). This reminds me of Chicken Ala King. The bread serves as the bowl, or in this case the boat for the creamy filling which is then topped with grated cheese. It could be good on its own but we just had lasagna so this one was overwhelming our palate.
Carrot, Banana, and Red Velvet Cupcakes (P60.00 each). Perfect for those with a sweet tooth.
Chocolate cake (P100.00). Rich, chocolatey goodness, sweet but not cloying. Best paired with coffee.
Aside from coffee, they also serve tea for people who prefer drinking the leaf based beverage. We got to try the Lemon and Ginger Sword. The warm lemon and ginger taste was refreshing and what we all needed after the decadent gustatory delights. A dash of honey can be added if you do not like the “grassy” taste of tea.
Though serving coffee is their main line of business, My Cuppa Fix upholds the value of community, collaboration, and community. The shop was built for the purpose of promoting art in any form and in helping individuals find a place to express their passions. Proof of this was a soap making workshop which was going to be held in their events area.
Whether you are sleepy or you just need a cup of java, My Cuppa Fix is a comfy cafe where you can just sit back and relax, read a paperback novel, or play a board game or two with your friends, of course, while having a fix of your favorite cup of joe.
