Produced by TOEI Company in the late 1970s, the series follows the exploits of motorcycle racer turned super hero Takuya Yamashiro (not Peter Parker), as he slings and swings, battling the evil Iron Cross Army along the way. No, it’s not the Spider-Man most fans are used to, but it’s fun, frantic and phenomenal.
That’s the synopsis provided by Marvel about the Japanese incarnation of our beloved comics superhero Spider-Man. I got to watch the first episode and it sure is not the Spidey we’re used to. He’s not a photojournalist but a motorcycle riding dude, which reminds me of Mask Rider Black (remember that 90’s kids?)
I wonder why this was not shown in our shores, coz I really think this would have been a big hit like the other Japanese action superhero series (Shaider, Bioman, Ultraman etc.).
Japanese Spider-Man, Supaidaman is a campy ride in the Marvel universe. A must watch for everyone who loves the web slinging hero.
