Old Manila Nostalgia

♫ Manila, I keep coming back to Manila..♫

Hotdog got it right, we all keep coming back to Manila. We may hate it because of what it has become but it will always have a special place in our hearts. We come back to Manila not only in the literal sense of the word but to the image of Manila in our minds. They say nostalgia is a seductive liar, it covers the pot holes and makes us see things with rose colored glasses but who does not like that?

Through the magic of social networks and YouTube (by the way is it You-Toob or You Choob?) I found some videos that would remind us of the time when Manila was the Queen of the Pacific and the Philippines (Filipinas or Pilipinas?) was the Pearl of the Orient. The time when there was not a lot of informal settlers and Pasig River was like the Venice of the East.

Maybe it is not really about bringing Manila back to its old glory; as they say the past is about learning and letting go, maybe we should just make the Manila that we have now become something that the young would be proud of. A place that they would speak fondly when they are all grown up and have kids of their own.

We cannot bring the past back but we can make the present better, Right? Now that would make it more fun in the Philippines.

Viva Manila. Mabuhay ang Pilipinas, err, Filipinas.

Till my next rant. Peace and Stay Fresh.
