The popularity of smartphones has given rise to hundreds of mobile apps, which in turn have spawned a variety of external devices that connect to apps on smartphones and tablets. These “appcessories” in the form of toys, musical or artistic tools, wireless sports and fitness devices, or home appliances let you extend the functionality of your iPod touch, iPhone or iPad.
One appcessory device in the wearable technology department that has caught the fancy of markets abroad is Cookoo the Connected Watch, a designer watch with Bluetooth-enabled feature recently made available in the Philippines through Power Mac Center’s store chain nationwide. I had the chance to test the Cookoo watch at the Power Mac Center Trinoma last week along with other people and I must say that it was a fascinating experience.
Multiple features of the Cookoo watch are well suited to Filipinos who are highly engaged users of social networking and the digital lifestyle. These include a camera trigger for taking group pictures with the iPod, iPhone or iPad from a distance, a remote control for the Music app on Apple products, and different notifications on the watch face that alert the user of the status of one’s device in real time such as incoming or missed calls, new messages, calendar reminders, low battery, and alarm clock.
The feature that I guess most Filipinos would love would be the camera trigger option that would allow you take a picture just by clicking the Cookoo watch, now everyone gets to be in the picture and selfies (I know a lot who love take those vanity shots) would not be that hard. Aside from that the watch will also notify you if you left your phone behind (I think I’ll get to use that feature a lot as I tend to forget my phone most of the time).
The watch has a silicon strap but you can replace it with a regular leather strap at your watch repair shop. It retails for Php6,500, quite pricey but if you can buy an iPhone or any iOS device, I am sure you can afford the Cookoo watch. As for those who are using Android devices (which includes this blogger), I am afraid that the watch only works with iOS. Boo hoo, right? (That is my only caveat)
Now I just need someone to give me an iPhone so I can buy the Cookoo watch. Or both. 🙂
