The Globe Lumpia House: No Branch, Just in Raon

I did not plan to go out yesterday but a sudden invite to do the annual Visita Iglesia prompted me to go to Manila with two friends who both had nothing to do on a hot Maundy Thursday afternoon. I will post our entire church hopping experience some other time. Let me just tell you about one of our pit stops: The Globe Lumpia House on Raon St. in Quiapo, Manila.

Of course, it’s not a church but we gotta eat so we can have the energy to visit each one, right? Raon is not exactly the street to to think of when it comes to food. It is more popular for its wide array of electronics, fitness equipment, hardware peripherals and other stuff.

Being the odd one out has proven to be a boon for the restaurant as people in search of a snack go to Globe to take a bite of their 47 year old lumpiang sariwa recipe. A piece of the fresh spring roll is at Php16.00, not bad for cheapskates like me.

Pictures of celebrities who have been to the place adorn their walls (The list include Charlene Gonzales, Susan Enriquez, Winnie Cordero etc.)

Aside from the lumpia they also sell chicken empanada for Php15.00. But you do not really to Globe Lumpia House for the empanada, if that is the case then it should have been called the Globe Empanada House, right? Soft drink is at Php10.00. (They only had Sarsi when we dropped by)

So if you are around the area or you just want some lumpiang sariwa, why not drop by the original Globe Lumpia House (and as it say on their sign: No Branch).

The Globe Lumpia House is at 740 Raon St, Bgy 307, Zone 030 Sta. Cruz, Manila, Philippines ( Google showed this address but I have always thought it is still Quiapo). It’s a stone’s throw away from Quezon Boulevard so you will not have a problem finding it.

Warning: The place is a bit small and there is no air conditioning so be prepared to have a sweaty but satisfyingly delicious time inside. Or you can always opt to take out (to go) your order.

Fresh spring rolls on a street filled with electronic goods. No wonder, it’s more fun in the Philippines.

Till my next post. Peace and Stay Fresh dear readers.

  1. first time kong nkapunta sa globe lumpia raon ay noon pang 1976 1st year college ako noon sa PCC(PUP na ngayon). kung hindi pa din nagbabago ang lasa sa natikman ko noon, masarap talaga ang fresh lumpia nila.

  2. Kaga-graduate ko lang sa high school at nasa first year college ako ng matuklasan ko ang Globe Lumpia House sa dating Raon Street. Imagine those long years of their existence. Now I am 62 years of age. I don’t want to compute. Suffice to say I am always there whenever I am in Quiapo.
