A man named Robert Blair Carabuena was caught on video manhandling an MMDA traffic enforcer after he was flagged down for not stopping his vehicle (the other guy is his brother Benjamin). I do not know what caused him to go ballistic but from an outsider’s point of view there was nothing that would make you support the guy after watching him belittle and maul the poor Saturnino Fabros.

Maybe he is a good friend, son, office mate and citizen of this land so I would not go down and call him names but it is clear and evident from the video that he did something wrong. Maybe it was a wrong call on the part of the MMDA enforcer but that does not give anyone a right to hurt another individual. In an interview his father said that Mr. Fabros was the one who started it when he curse at Carabuena and tapped his Volvo. Still, not a good reason to slap and berate the enforcer.

*Mr. Carabuena is reportedly an HR supervisor for tobacco giant Philip Morris International. As of posting he has refused to talk to TV 5 regarding the incident and has since deactivated his social media profiles.

Update: Cigarette maker Philip Morris Fortune Tobacco Corp. (PMFTC) said it has suspended its executive, “pending the outcome of the investigation” while MMDA T/C Fabros has already filed direct assault charges against him.

A reader commented on the post with Carabuena’s personal information (mobile number and home address), I was tempted to publish it but I believe that he still has a right to privacy so I decided against it. Sorry about that dear reader, I hope you understand. Journalism ethics tells me not to do so and my former professors would likely reprimand me (Hi Prof!). Aside from that some vigilante might go to his house and also put the law in his hands. (Anarchy is not the solution folks)

Atenista, naka-Volvo, rich friends, you have everything – the traffic enforcer only has his job and his dignity. Your sense of Entitlement is sorely misplaced. Ingat lagi! – this is what I posted – but yes you’re right he does have the right to privacy…although at this time and (Internet) age – things like this are definitely blown out of proportion – but who’s to blame? the society? culture? or just plain arrogance? Let’s repeat that statement again – Right or wrong – it doesn’t give you ANY RIGHT – to lay hands on ANYONE unless it’s self-defense.

      I totally AGREE with your post Rod, this Mr. Carabuena thinks he is a God. You are such a dismay to your family. Reminds me of same scenario where a taxi cab hit the tail light of a brand new BMW. A tall man, about 50 years old. dressed in barong tagalog came out of the vehicle and approached the taxi driver. He politely asked how is he? is there something wrong, is he sleepy. Humbly, the driver apologized, admitting his fault. The gentleman tapped his shoulder and said, “just be careful next time ok? … I was amazed to find out that the strange man, although not known to me, has convoy bodyguards and could be really rich – and in power, but he never used it.

      Your heart is totally sorrounded with FAT that you can no longer use it for “feelings”.

      Remember… A real man… with a “good heart”, is humble.

    For those who are too quick to comment with too much anger, kindly hold back and think about it more deeper – aren’t we all sometimes tempted to do what the Philip Morris employee did? There is really ‘this something’ in driving that brings the best and worst in all drivers. I honestly admit this and I say self-control should always be in check everytime anyone touches the wheel.

    Therefore, in the case of the PM employee, he should have never done it – not just because he is blessed enough to be an ‘executive of a multi-national company and an Atenean’ but also there is really no excuse for such manner. However, just in EDSA alone, how many events like this happens everyday? A driver against an enforcer, pedestrian/passenger or another driver? Some people even get killed by traffic altercations……just because for a very brief time, they lost ‘it’ – their self control. So let me share this simple awareness if it could help anyone who goes out there on the road – ANYTIME YOU HAVE TROUBLE WHILE ON THE ROAD, MAKE IT BRING OUT THE BETTER IN YOU. IF YOU CAN’T, JUST LET IT GO. Doing so makes it an insignificant event in your daily routine which you’ll just forget later on. Or of course, you can do Rambo and be an overnight national whipping boy when somebody caught you with one of the 2 million camera phones out there.

    As it is, this is just one of the human weaknesses that was fortunately caught in camera. There are more hideous things that happens everyday which aren’t seen or caught yet which deserve far more angry responses than this one. Just ask your mayor, for one.

Dapat ma cancel na ang driver’s license ni Carabuena, dahil di sya dapat nag mamaneho sa kalye kung may violent tendencies sya, baka sa susunod makapatay na siya.
    I have a suggestion, instead na mag HR supervisor ka Carabuena, bakit di ka na lang pumasok sa boxing, para ma release mo yang inner passion! And another thing, pick your own size naman, Boy Baboy!
