Angelo Catsro Jr. dies of lung cancer at 67

angelo-castro-jr-pic-1“Nothing is wasted time if you use the experience wisely” – Angelo Castro Jr.

There are two news anchors I really admire; the late Frankie Evangelista, Kabayan Noli De Catro and Mel Tiangco’s former co-anchor on TV Patrol who died in 2004. The other one is Angelo Castro Jr., who has succumbed to lung cancer at the age of 67. Both of them possess a distinct baritone voice that showed authority and it is because of them that I wanted to work in broadcast news.

Most of us would probably pick Kabayan or Mike Enriquez as their favorite anchor but I prefer Angelo Castro’s more subdued and less in your face style of reporting. Now that the armalite style reportage seems to be the norm, Mr. Castro’s passing seems like the death knell for this kind of newscast.

Thank you very much Mr. Angelo Castro. The world loss another soul tonight.

ako rin mas gusto ko ang style ng pagre-report nila. Medyo sensationalize kung mag-deliver kasi yung isa, yung 2 gusto mo, parang straight news tayo, no more or less.

Condolence sa naiwang pamilya ni Mr. Castro.
