It’s Friday, Friday Gotta get down on Friday Everybody’s lookin’ forward to the weekend, weekend …

Way back when Rebecca Black was still a figment of her parent’s imagination my favorite day of the week was Friday. Yes, Rebecca Black, there was a time when a whole night on the Star Network was devoted to foreign programs. This was before they established their UHF channel Studio 23. I am sure those of you who were kids back then will know what I am saying.

1. Are You Afraid of the Dark? – “Submitted for the approval of the Midnight Society, I call this story…”

4. Doogie Howser M.D. – Teach me how to Doogie? Yeah men, it was not a dance step but the name of our favorite teenage doctor. Bida dito si Neil Patrick Harris (Bros now know him as Barney on “How I Met Your Mother”).Β  For a while eh pinangarap kong maging manggagamot dahil sa kanya, and then I realized I hate hospitals. Goodbye Dr. Tadonggeniuskuno.

Now I know why I became a jaded thirtysomething.

7. Star Wars: Ewoks – Furry little creatures from a galaxy far, far away. Enuff said.(Can’t find the video for the series kaya ito na lang)

Who would forget nanny Fran and her laughter and Queens accent. This sitcom is very Pinoy when it comes to its humor.

9. Baby Talk – It may have been a rip-off of “Look Who’s Talking” and just aired for one season but I like this show. I was a kid remember? This may not be one of TV’s finest programs ever but I liked it, I lily lily liked it.

10. The Twilight Zone – Pinoy Thriller and Regal Shocker were the programs to turn to for Pinoy flavored fright fest. But there was nothing like the Twilight Zone. It did not deliberately scare you but you felt the spine tingling dread that it brought every Friday night. I especially liked the episode where a guy wakes up and he’s the only man in town. Creepy.

Hay buhay, those were the good old days. Kung maibabalik ko lang ang nakaraan. As we all know, ABS-CBN launched Studio 23 for its foreign programming but sadly it has lost its mojo in recent years. I will always look at Friday nights with fondness knowing that it would never be the same.

Till my next rant. Peace and Stay Fresh.πŸ™‚

  1. I do love the old sensible shows before than the very illusional and melodramatic teleseryes of these days that actually destroyed my interest to watch programs after the news.

the story lines are so shallow and they are just the same scripts recycled over and again. So bad that it does not help our young people to think wise and become creative.

  2. Twilight Zone is a classic! Especially that mind boggling and spine-chilling intro.

Aside from these TV shows, Friday is the last day of the school week and there’s no better way to spend the Friday night but to watch TV during my childhood days.

  3. ahhh… the years when there wasn’t any reality show.πŸ™‚ though mukhang mas nanonood ng mga ito eh mga ate ko, hindi ako mismo. i just had no choice since sila may hawak ng remote control. although ako lang yata nanonood ng Ewoks, The Nanny, Ghost Busters noon. at saka Perfect Strangers!πŸ˜€
