While everyone was still reeling from the aftermath of the controversial fight of the honorable representative of Sarangani and the guy who used to drink his urine and now Mexico’s national feet (pambansang paa does not translate well in English), the 7th Cinema One Originals Film Festival had its awards night last Sunday.
Though it was Sari Lluch Dalena’s “Ka Oryang” which won best picture, the audience award was given to Antoinette Jadaone’s “Six Degrees of Separation from Lilia Cuntapay”, a mockumentary starring a lady who you may not know by name but you would definitely recognize once you see her face, Lilia who? She first appeared in “Shake, Rattle and Roll 3 in 1991 but her role which is still ingrained in the deep crevice of my crazy mind is the one where she played the aswang alter ego of Alma Moreno, Peque Gallaga’s “Aswang” (1992).
After her string of bit roles in movies and television programs, it is a good thing that she finally becomes the “bida” in a movie. The mockumentary which tells the story of a bit player who gets an award for the first time in her 30 year career brought home six trophies, the most number of awards in the festival. It was a case of life imitating art as Madam Lilia won the best actress award along with the uber pretty Maricar Reyes (she who became famous for another kind of indie film, but that is another story folks).
Now I am just shaking my head coz I miss watching this movie during its run. I just hope it will have a commercial release. Iba ka talaga Lilia Cuntapay, ka-level mo na si Kevin Bacon. Mabuhay ang Pinoy cinema!
Till my next rant. Peace and Stay Fresh.
